Verizon Acquires Yahoo And Twitter Bans Reporter

Jack Dorsey Permanently Bans Reporter

Controversial reporter and noted Twitter troll Milo Yiannopoulos has been banned from Twitter, permanently.  Yiannopoulos, writer and editor with Breitbart, was banned by CEO Jack Dorsey and the Twitter executives for inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment of others.  Milo deliberately orchestrating a widespread attack against popular comedian and actress Leslie Jones, where more than 300,000 of his followers flooded her account with racist, abusive. and sexually explicit messages.  Finally a social media platform stands up to a highly prolific Twitter troll figure and takes a stand on the worse aspect effecting social media.

End of An Era – VCRs No Longer

Who knew!!??  A company in Japan, Funai Electric Corporation, are still manufacturing VCRs.  And the company sold approximately 750,000 in 2015 alone!  Incredible to see that in the age of digital options, cell phones, Blu Ray, DVD players, and on-demand subscription services, VCRs are still being picked up.  Well, the only company manufacturing VCRs has announced the end of an era and will halt production at end of year, citing issues and difficulties acquiring the needed components.

Verizon buys Yahoo; Marissa Mayer’s pay

It finally happened.  Verizon made an offer to buy Yahoo’s core business services for an estimated $4.82 billion in cash.  Verizon will be the proud owner of Yahoo’s mail, news, finance, and sports services.  And don’t forget, Verizon is buying a small social media platform called Tumblr in the deal.  Verizon has been buying up numerous companies, including the once super popular AOL.  The telecommunication giant continues to spread their wings and looks to improve their digital strategy and complete with the likes of Facebook and Google in digital advertising.  The future of Marissa Mayer is not known but she expressed interest that she is “planning on staying” to see the development and growth of her company continue and to see through the vision already in motion.

Windows 10 last chance to upgrade for free

If you’ve been wanting to jump on the free upgrade to Windows 10, just a reminder that the upgrade offer is available until Friday, July 29.  The next major update to Windows 10 will be The Anniversary Update, which will help users be more productive, have higher security protocols , and allow users to have fun with the OS.  The update brings six major and new improvements to users and enterprises.  Check out the Windows Blog for a detailed look at those.  With over 350 million device now running Windows 10, Microsoft is slowly moving toward their goal of 1 billion users on their operating system.

Jeff Bezos passes Warren Buffett to become third richest person in the world

Amazon founder and e-commerce giant Jeff Bezos has surpassed Warren Buffet in wealth and now ranks 3rd richest in the world!  Not too bad for a guy who started Amazon in his garage.  And not too bad for what once use to be a small e-book site, but now ranks as one of the best site for customer service, quality of products, and quickness in delivery service.  Bezos’ wealth is estimated to be at $65.1 billion as of last week, give or take a few hundred million based on how the market fluctuated.
